Latest Basement Remodel in Frederick, Maryland

This client sought Adroit Design Remodeling’s services for a basement remodel to accommodate a family member who was going to move in soon. Our goal was to create an “in-law suite” living area in the unfinished basement. The scope of the remodel included the design and production of:

• • One Bedroom
  • Large Recreation Room
  • Three closets
  • Cabinets with a bar sink in the recreation room
  • Small hallway kitchenette

This project needed to include an “aging in place” design in order to accommodate future handicap accessibility. This meant that portions of the remodel needed to include wider doors for possible future wheelchair accessibility and walkers.

We also installed an egress window in the basement bedroom to meet current state codes. This kind of window allows residents to promptly exit and first responders (i.e. firefighters) to enter in the event of a fire or other emergency. Egress windows must meet strict size regulations in order to serve as an occupant escape route.

We used a variety of materials in the remodel, including:

• • Granite countertops
  • White kitchen cabinets
  • Luxury vinyl floor tile
  • 3’ doors (for wheelchair accessibility)
  • Closet shelving

In order to hide the city water meter and electrical panel in the new bedroom, we also custom built access panels to blend in with the wall paint.
